Approaching its third year, the Inclusive Employment Ecosystem (IEE) has grown in leaps and bounds, from just a solitary company and a few people with a significant vision and passion to commit to inclusion in employment, a field which is otherwise cast aside. It was perhaps fitting that it should be hosted by Siemens Energy on 16 January 2025, the very first company to join and then drive the IEE forward.
While it is a new year, the topic at hand for this session was ‘recruitment’, which was touched upon last year, albeit from a more strategic and top-level point of view. In particular, this session was about job descriptions, a crucial part of the recruitment process and an overlooked one at that. It was eye opening to realise just how discriminatory and even unnecessary these descriptions could be. Multiple activities demonstrated this point effectively, followed by ideas and insights to allow the process to be fairer and acceptable for everyone.
The session was also attended by representatives of various universities across the UAE, which also allowed for a rapid-fire question session for how to bridge the gap between educators and industry, with fruitful discussions on vocational pathways, which do not require a strict educational route. We look forward to even more substantial discussions in the various facets of inclusion in employment and the workforce
